Toner Reset Instructions for Brother TN-227, TN-223
Issue:
The toner cartridge's reset gear did not properly connect and reset the printer's New Toner Sensor. After the toner cartridge is placed, the reset gear will only operate once, and the position of the gear cannot be reset after that. A manual reset technique is required to reset the Toner Life Display.
Solution:
To manually reset the toner life, go through the steps listed below.
1. Open and keep the front cover open.

Press the "Return
" and "Cancel
" push two buttons at the same time, hold for 1 to 2 seconds, then press the "Return" button at the same time. The manual for resetting the device will display.
3. Choose the color and toner capacity you want to reset by pressing the "Arrow" button on the touchscreen. For example, "M.TNR-HC" stands for Magenta and "HC" stands for High Capacity. Go to the reset page by pressing the item "M.TNR-HC."
4. To confirm the reset, press the "Yes" button on the touchscreen. Close the front cover to complete the reset procedure, and the printer will display "Accepted."
